A police officer in Georgia was shot within the head Tuesday evening throughout a shootout with a suspect at a motel, authorities stated.
The officer, who was not publicly recognized, was hospitalized and was in steady situation as of Wednesday morning, the Covington Police Division stated.

The gun battle occurred after officers responded round 10:30 p.m. to the OYO Lodge on Alcovy Street in Covington for a reported struggle between a pair, FOX5 Atlanta reported.

A witness staying on the motel informed the station that the couple had been “arguing all evening” and refused to open to door for the responding officer.
